The City Government of Davao sent another batch of welfare goods to Cotabato City and Maguindanao on Friday morning, November 4.

At least 16 trucks were deployed to the said areas, carrying 8,000 boxes of welfare goods, medicines, sleeping kits, and hygiene kits from the City Government, the Philippine Coast Guard, and private donors. This is the second batch of the delivery of relief assistance, with the first batch sent last October 29, 2022.

The Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office also sent psychologists and social workers to assist in the psychosocial intervention of the affected individuals. Personnel from the Davao City Police Office and Task Force Davao were also deployed to help in the distribution of goods.

Davao City Information Office Officer-in-Charge Mr. Harvey James Lanticse said that the assessment of teams deployed to give initial aid and rescue has caused the distribution of the second batch of goods.

“Based on the assessment of the team on the ground during the first visit, need pa-gyud og tabang with the said LGUs so mao nga nakadecide ta with the guidance of the city mayor nga mag second round of delivery (Based on the assessment of the team on the ground during the first visit, the LGUs still need help, so that is why it was decided, with the guidance of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, to make the second round of delivery),” he said.

Lanticse said that the Local Disaster Council also convened on Thursday to discuss the financial assistance that the city will extend.

“Yesterday the City Disaster Council convened aron mahan-ay ang financial assistance that we usually give to calamity-stricken areas nga nagdeclare na og state of calamity. So, the council will endorse this to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for appropriate action. The city council needs to approve it before we can send the financial assistance (Yesterday, the City Disaster Council convened to set the financial assistance that we usually give to calamity-stricken areas that already declared State of Calamity. So. the council will endorse this to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for appropriate action. The city council needs to approve it before we can send the financial assistance),” Lanticse said.

He added that the Local Government of Davao continues to accept in-kind donations at the designated drop-off points in Rizal Park (beside City Hall) and the Task Force Davao Headquarters in Sta. Ana, Wharf until November 5 for Typhoon Paeng-affected communities.

“We are accepting donations until tomorrow. We are sending assistance to Sultan Kudarat by next week.
