The Davao City government relief operation continued delivering food and non-food items on Thursday and reached over 2,000 families affected by three strong earthquakes and several aftershocks in quake-hit villages in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

The relief operation headed by the Task Force Davao (TFD) delivered total of 2,604 food packs, 186 boxes of water, 20 rolls of tarpaulin, 7 sacks of clothes, 4 sacks of blankets, and 3 boxes of medicines for the quake survivors in Barangays Rizal, New Clarin, Linawan, Alegre, Eman, Sto. Niño, Kinuskusan, and Darapuay in Bansalan town. Among the nine villages, Barangay Darapuay is the most heavily affected by the earthquake.

Thankful of the relief aid and immediate response from the Davao City government, Bansalan Municipal Mayor Quirina T. Sarte bared a total of 3,412 families were affected by the recent earthquakes which damaged several homes and establishments including the Municipal Hall, a public mall, and schools.

“Mapasalamaton kaayo ko bisan pa man kay Mayor Sara Duterte kay ‘duna naman gud siya’y gihimo diri na paghatag. Dili lang kwarta, pati mga relief goods. Salamat kaayo, diin makatabang to sa mga nahimong biktima niadtong milabay nga mga linog (I am thankful to Mayor Sara Duterte. Even if she already sent money she also sent relief goods as well. Thank you very much because this can help the victims of the previous earthquake),” she said.

Survivors in Bansalan said their food and water in the evacuation centers are already sufficient, but lamented the lack of tents and medicines.

“Tambal gyud dapat ang importante sa amoa diri kanang pang ubo, sip-on, labi na naa mi mga bata. Haplas pud para sa mga tigulang, ug trapal (Medicines for cough and colds, herbal oil for the elderly and tarpaulins for tents are the needs here),” said Evangeline Enero, a resident of Barangay Darapuay, Bansalan.

Enero said she and other residents were relieved after knowing that the Davao City relief team brought these (medicines and tents) items.

“Dako gyud kaayo mi’g pasalamat. Ang among pasalamat di’ gyud kabayran. Daghan nagpakabana sa amoa diri sa pagkakaron nga naa mi sa evacuation center. Wala mi pasagdi sa gobyerno (We are very thankful that many have helped us here in the evacuation center. The government has taken care of us),” she added.

The Bansalan relief operation followed Wednesday’s relief in Magsaysay also in Davao del Sur. CIO
