The City Government of Davao has firmed up decision to send financial assistance to several areas of Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur, which were recently hit by calamities.

The assistance will be distributed to the flooded areas of Tagum City, Carmen, Asuncion, Kapalong, Braulio E. Dujali and Sto. Tomas in Davao del Norte; Manay, Cateel, Tarragona, Baganga, Boston and Caraga in Davao Oriental; and the dry spell-hit town of Bansalan in Davao del Sur.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said that as soon as the city council approves the financial assistance that will be given to the different areas, the city government will immediately deliver it to them.

“We are planning to send them P300,000 per (LGU) that they can use for their evacuees or for rehabilitation purposes,” she said. “We have a big disaster quick response fund that we can share with our neighbors so it is better if we can give to our neighbors who are in need.”

The City Government also sent other forms of assistance to flood-affected areas in Davao del Norte during the recent flooding incident.

City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (CDRRMO) Alfredo Baluran said that immediately after the government of Braulio E. Dujali sought volunteers for its trapped constituents, the city government sent some volunteers there.

“We sent some of our personnel there, but we cannot send them all since we are also preparing for possible eventualities in the city,” he said, adding that the Davao River and other tributaries had been swelling by then, also putting at risk residents in the city’s low-lying areas and those living near the river banks.

“We are always willing to help our neighbors,” Baluran said. CIO
