The city government has dispatched its mobile kitchen to serve hot meals to around 2,322 families who evacuated to safe grounds on Monday night when major rivers overflow to residential areas due to heavy rains.

In an interview with the City Information Office, City Social Services and Development Office (CSWDO) head Marlisa Gallo said that her office immediately dispatched the city government’s mobile kitchen to serve hot meals to affected residents who took refuge in 19 evacuation sites on Monday night, March 7. CSWDO was able to serve not only hot meals but also kits such as modular tents.

In the morning of March 8, Gallo said the majority of the affected residents have returned to their homes.

“Mostly nanguli na, except ang naa Barangay Tigatto, Brgy- 19 (Most of them already returned home, except those in Barangay Tigatto and Barangay-19 B),” Gallo said.

Meanwhile, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Alfredo Baloran in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio on Tuesday said that his teams have so far not received reports of casualties or persons injured.

“At least nalipay ta nga wala’y natala nga casualties (We are happy to note that we did not record casualties),” he said, adding, Dabawenyos should remain on high alert for possible flooding incidents.

However, Baloran reported that a landslide occurred and affected a two-lane road at Sitio Malapangi, Barangay Malabog, rendering the road not passable to any types of vehicles.

“Naa pa-gyud ta sa La Niña. Murag naa sa Marso hangtod sa Abril. Magpahimangno ta nga kanunay mag-alerto kay makasinati kita ug localized thunderstorm inubanan sa Low Pressure Area nga duol sa Davao City nga nagdala sa kusog na pag-ulan (We are still in La Niña season. This may extend to April. We would like to remind everyone to always be alert because we may experience localized thunderstorms with LPA near Davao city that brings heavy rains),” Baloran said.

He also said that this warning also extends to those who are living in landslide-prone areas. (CIO)
