The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) urged Dabawenyos to be on their toes with the ever-changing weather conditions.
“We are now in the transition period from La Niña to El Niño pero kung tan-awon nato ang weather mura bag wala pa kaayo nato nafeel ang transition.. the transition starts from February to March (We are now in the transition period to El Niño but if we look at the weather, it seems the transition is not felt.. The transition starts from February
to March),” CDRRMO head Alfredo Baloran told reporter on Monday after the City Hall Employees weekly flag
raising ceremony.
Baloran said that the public should always be on alert for weather changes.
“Kanunay sila nga magbinantayon, especially kay atong weather system changeable gyud siya kaayo. Makita man nato karon
init kaayo then unyang gabii, kusog napud ang ulan. Kung tan-awon nimo ang bulletin sa Pag-asa maka-feel gihapon
tag weather disturbances within this week. Hopefully during the weekend hatagan ta og maayo nga panahon (They should always be on alert because our weather system is susceptible to changes. We can clearly see that we have sunny weather during the day and experience rain at night. If you also look at the weather bulletin of Pagasa it states that we can feel weather disturbances
within the week, hopefully during the weekend we are given good weather),” Baloran said.
He said that the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (BDRRMO) are always connected and always linked
with the CDRRMO for announcements and immediate reports on the status – morning and afternoon – in their respective barangays.
“Ongoing ang enhancement sa ilang mga gamit karon sa barangay through their 5 percent nga Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) sa barangay (the enhancement of their equipment is ongoing through their 5 percent Internal Revenue allotment),” he said.
As to hazards, Baloran said that roadside soil erosion that affected road right of way, as reported in the previous weeks due to the rain,
were already cleared. However, of all the collapsed roads, only that of Barangay Fatima is being repaired by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
He said that for Paquibato, the alternative route is being constructed by the CEO. The collapsed portion of the road was not rehabilitated yet
as it is still unstable.
Baloran said that their office is requesting a meeting with the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), and the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) to look into what
can be done to fast-track the projects as there is also a risk that the alternative roads may be affected by heavy rains. CIO
