The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has warned residents in flood and landslide-prone areas to be alert as Davao City still experiences intermittent rains that trigger floods and landslides.

Speaking over Davao City Disaster Radio on Wednesday CDRRMO Chief Alfredo Baloran said that CDRRMO teams in close coordination with the Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMC) continue to visit and check the flood and landslide-prone areas while warning people to be on extra alert.

“Permanente [ang among pahimangno], hilabi na karon nga padayon ang pag ulan-ulan, ma pondo man gud ang tubig ma stuck sa landslide prone areas, naa pa gyud ground shaking so naay tendency nga mag-loosen ang pundasyon sa yuta mao na moresulta gyud sa pagdahili (We warn them repeatedly, especially now that we are experiencng continued rains. The water is contained in the landslide-prone areas. We also experience ground shaking so there is a tendency that the foundation of the soil loosens resulting in a landslide),” Baloran said.

He was concerned that there are still residents in landslide-prone areas, although they have been constantly  advised to find a safer place.

“Kining namuyo sa landslide prone area amo silang gihangyo nga mangita sila’g lugar kung diin sila safe nga magpuyo para malayo pud sila sa disgrasya. Nakita nato ang nahitabo sa Leyte, hinaot nga dili mahitabo sa atoa (We have asked those who are living in landslide-prone area to find another place where they can live safely away from danger. We saw what happened in Leyte and we are hoping that it does not happen to us),” Baloran said.

As to the other hazard zones, CDRRMO has mounted signage on areas along or within fault lines.  Davao City has five identified fault lines.

Baloran advised the public not to panic if they see the signage because this is public information and advance information so residents can take necessary steps on the proper building requirements. CIO
