The Davao City Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) with the help of the Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) has evacuated eight families after a landslide occurred on Monday (April 11) morning at the Upper West Marahan, Barangay Marilog Proper.
In an interview with the City Information Office (CIO), CDRRMO head Alfredo Baloran said the affected families were evacuated safely and there were no casualties in the incident. The families took temporary shelter at GKK San Miguel.
“Ang atong office CDRRMO nag-instruct sa BDRRMC na i-evacuate ang affected families didto sa gi-identify na evacuation area- Upper West Marahan Covered court pero gibalhin sila sa BDRRMC didto sa GKK kay ang GKK man gud naay bong-bong (Our office, CDRRMO instructed the BDRRMC to evacuate the affected families to their identified evacaution area in Upper West Marahan covered court but they were transferred by the BDRRMC to the GKK chapel because it has walls),” he said.
As of 2PM on April 12, a total of three families have remained at the GKK San Miguel while others have returned to their residences or stayed at nearby relatives.
Based on the CDRRMO geohazard risk assessment conducted on April 12, the landslide affected three (3) houses located on an unstable slope with water-saturated and weak underlying earth materials.
Adjacent house structures were identified in the landslide-prone area and some cracks in remaining adjacent structure were observed.
Baloran said another landslide occurred on Monday afternoon in Sitio Epol, Barangay Baganihan that partly covered one lane of the Davao – Bukidnon road. No one was reported affected.
Baloran assured road clearing had been conducted by the City Engineer’s Office and the barangay to avoid traffic obstruction.
According to Baloran, Marilog experienced intermittent strong winds and rain showers due to typhoon Agaton.
He advised residents of the landslide-prone areas in Marilog to stay alert because of the continued weather disturbances.
Baloran also reminded residents along tributaries from Marilog to Suawan River and Davao River to stay alert for possible rise of water level in river channels. (CIO)
