Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte will issue an executive order next week to lift the city’s liquor ban that she has imposed since April to minimize the possibility of transmitting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during drinking sessions.
Mayor Sara is set to lift the liquor ban on September 21.
The mayor, however, reminded Dabawenyos that the lifting of the liquor ban was not a response to the clamor of the people for alcohol. Instead, the decision, she said, was made to to help business owners and people whose job are connected to the liquor industry.
“Wala nato gi lift ang liquor ban para sa inyoha. Gi-lift nato ang liquor ban para sa negosyo ug para sa mga tao nga nagtrabaho sa liquor business (We did not lift the liquor ban for you. We lifted the liquor ban for the businesses and for the people who are working in the liquor business),” she said.
Despite the lifting of the liquor ban, Mayor Sara stressed that beerhouses are still on the negative list of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), so establishments alike are still prohibited to operate. CIO
