Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte on Friday urged the public to get information on government declarations, including quarantine guidelines from the official social media accounts of the city and the national government.

This after two versions of a supposed extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) with conflicting dates – one is on May 25 and the other on May 31 have been circulating in different social media platforms.

“Naga-remind ta permi sa atoang mga netizens ‘no, na i-check sa ninyo, i-verify sa ninyo ang source sa inyohang social media card na inyohang gina-share kung official and confirmed ang information nga makita ninyo diha (We are reminding the netizens to check and verify the source of the social media card you share if it’s an official and confirmed information),” she said.

Mayor Sara said legitimate information is available on Davao City’s official accounts on Facebook and the national government’s Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM), People’s Television Network (PTV), the Philippine News Agency (PNA), and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

She said that if information circulating in social media is not found on the said official accounts means it is not correct or verifiable and should not be shared to avoid panic and misinformation.

The best thing that you can do to avoid panic, to avoid spreading misinformation is not to share that information if you can’t verify that it is true, Mayor Sara said. CIO
