The family members of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have also availed of the anti-Covid vaccination at the Matina Town Square after the vaccination cluster approved the site’s expanded coverage originally opened exclusively for migrant workers.
Remo Amatong, the Mindanao Head for Operation of Marino Partylist, told the City Information Office (CIO) in a phone interview on Tuesday bared that the immediate family members of OFWs – parents, spouses, children, and siblings 18 years old and above were catered after the announcement that the free vaccination is extended to the said group.
He said the number of family members availing of the vaccination even outnumbered the number of actual migrant workers.
“After the announcement mas dako ang number karon sa families sa OFWs than the actual OFWs (After the announcement the family members outnumber than the actual OFWs),” he said.
Amatong said the Matina Town Square vaccination was originally intended for the migrant workers to facilitate their deployment but there was a low turnout in the registration, thus, the site was expanded to include their family members and achieve the 500 vaccination per day target.
Remo said that most of the sea-based and land-based migrant workers possibly availed already anti-Covid-vaccine doses during the massive vaccination program for the priority groups, thus, a low turnout in registration for the Matina Town Square vaccination activity.
He said they have ensured the massive information drive to reach OFWs of the city to avail the vaccination drive and the site is still open for those who pre-register.
Amatong also assured that proper pre-registration procedures are also followed for the families of the OFWs. Still, no walk-ins are allowed.
“They have a separate link for registration online, and they come to the vaccination site and bring their necessary documents,” he said.

The vaccination team aims to cover 5,000 individuals after the last day of vaccination on September 2.
