Dabawenyos’ cooperation in adhering to the minimum health measures and getting vaccinated is fundamental in achieving the city government’s aim for zero Covid-19 cases in Davao City. This is besides the city government’s anti-Covid vaccination drive, contact and trace efforts, and the information advisories against the coronavirus disease.

The Covid-19 Task Force warned Dabawenyos against easing on adherence to anti-covid-19 measures under the Alert Level 2 status of the city.

In an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio on Wednesday, Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said that the main goal of the city is to entirely eradicate the Covid-19 virus.

“If we let our guards down, dako ang chance nga mo-alert level 3 na pud ta or worse alert level 4 (If we let our guards down, there is a big chance that we will be placed under Alert Level 3 or worse Alert Level 4),” she said.

Schlosser said that easing or imposing stricter regulations will depend on how responsible the people are in following the Minimum Public Health Standards (MPHS) and how responsible the people are in protecting themselves through getting vaccinated.

She said that they saw beforehand the possibility of easing restrictions under Alert level 2 and kept warning that Dabawenyos must continue to follow the public health measures such as the proper wearing of face masks, physical distancing, frequent washing of hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub, and get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Schlosser said that the easing of restrictions must not become an excuse for people to slack off in following minimum public health standards. They should also get two doses of the anti-Covid-19 vaccines and booster shots for an additional layer of protection.

“Naa paman gud ang Covid kahit na mag Alert Level 2 or Alert Level 1 ta. Sa ngalan nga naay Covid, we have to be very vigilant dili gyud pwede na dili na ta mag-mask wala na’y social distancing, dili na magpabooster. Kay mubo naman ang ato-ang Alert Level all the more mas i-heighten nato ang MPHS and magpabooster gyud ta (Covid-19 is still here even if we will be under Alert Level 2 or Alert Level 1. Since it still exists we have to be very vigilant. The non-observance of wearing a mask or non-following of social distancing, and non- availing of booster doses should not be the case. Since our Alert Level is lower, we should all the more heighten our MPHS and we should get booster dose),” Schlosser said.

Schlosser said that while the city’s positivity rate has decreased to 7.18 percent, people should follow the MPHS regardless of the Alert Levels. CIO
