The Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) intensified its monitoring of erring resort owners violating the minimum public health protocol imposed by the city under the General Community Quarantine (GCW) with Heightened Restriction.
On Sunday, September 12, the CTOO launched an operation, together with the personnel of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), in a resort in Catalunan Pequeño. The joint team conducted a random inspection of the tourism establishment to implement the provisions of the GCQ with heightened restriction guidelines, particularly the MB Family Resort.
Based on the report, the establishment was caught hosting a birthday party with about 20 guests including adults and children at Purok 1 Km 13 Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City. Health officials said that the conduct social gathering is vulnerable to COVID-19 transmission.
The guests and resort owner violated the Inter-Agency Task Force Resolution Number 130-A series of 2021 for the Management of the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IAT-MEID), the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Memorandum Circular No. 21-28 series of 2021 under Category III.
“MICE and social events are not allowed. Pool also are not allowed to operate under DTI advisory 21-16 Guidelines in GCQ,” the report said.
In an interview with DCPO director Colonel Kirby John Kraft, he said that cases are being prepared against the concerned family and the resort management. He said that the respondents will be charged with violating Republic Act 11332, or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.
“Ang napa-file namin kaso dito is violation of section 9 of the Republic Act 11332 for non-cooperation. [Ito ang] ginagawa natin sa mga nahuhuli kasama ang owner management,” Kraft said.
He further warned the public against violating the quarantine guidelines set by the government and seek the public’s cooperation to prevent the spread of the virus amid a surge of cases in the city.
On the other hand, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio, in an interview on Monday during the Special Hour Program, reminded the public to observe the safety protocols and veer away from unessential activities.
“This is not a joke. This is not a conspiracy. Wala mi nagsabot sa mga pasyente nga nagtapok karon sa mga hospitals nga nanginahanglan ug oxygen. Ang pinaka ma-advise nako sa inyuha, you get yourself vaccinated and you get your two doses of vaccination (This is not a joke. This is not a conspiracy. We did not plan this with the patients in the hospitals who are in need of oxygen. My advice to the public is to get yourself vaccinated),” Duterte said.
She emphasized that the quarantine restriction has a purpose, which is to control the movement of the public in a bid to curb the rising cases of COVID-19.
