Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said that the number of coronavirus disease 2019 cases in the city continued to dwindle with only two digits of active cases recorded as of December 13.

During her weekly program over the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Monday afternoon, Duterte bared that the COVID-19 situation in Davao City continues to improve with active cases now less than a hundred.

“We still have good news para sa tanan with regard to our pandemic and our COVID-19 cases diri sa Davao City. Sa karon, 97 nalang kabuok ang atoang active cases, two digits nalang. Same pud with the patients inside the Southern Philippines Medical Center, two digits na lang ilang COVID-19 patients (We still have good news for everyone concerning our pandemic and our COVID-19 cases in Davao City. As of now, we have 97 active cases, only two digits. The same with the number of patients inside the SPMC, they only have two-digit of COVID-19 patients)” the city mayor said.

Based on the Regional Situation Update on COVID-19 in Davao Region as of December 13 posted by the Department of Health (DOH) Davao at 5:40 p.m., the city logged three new cases, bringing the citywide tally to 88 with 14 new recoveries.

In the past weeks, the city recorded fewer COVID-19 cases which prompted the easing of movement restrictions and the city’s new classification under Alert Level 2.

In her previous interview, the city mayor attributed the consecutive drop of new COVID-19 cases in the city to the massive vaccination rollout, which has now reached over a million fully-vaccinated Dabawenyos.

She said that even though the minimum public health standard (MPHS) was implemented before, there was no significant effect on the number of cases. But when the vaccination drive started, a significant decrease in cases was observed.

With the Christmas season, the city mayor urged the public to follow the MPHS such as wearing face masks, avoiding mass gatherings, and frequent hand hygiene as to not trigger another surge of cases amid the threat of the Omicron variant.

“Ang atoang prevention and enforcement group sa atong Response Cluster nagpadayon gihapon sila og monitor and remind sa mga tao and sa mga establishment nga ipadayon gihapon ang pag implement sa minimum public health standards (The prevention and enforcement group of our Response Cluster continues to monitor and remind the public and establishments to continue to implement the minimum public health standard),” the city mayor said.
