Davao City bolsters monitoring, vax drive as city remains at high risk for Covid-19

As Davao City remains a high-risk area for coronavirus disease transmission, the city government strengthened its monitoring and anti-Covid mobile vaccination drive particularly in barangays with a high number of cases.

Based on the Morbidity Week 34 data from the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, Davao City has an average daily attack rate of 22.22 per cent and a growth rate of 5.75 per cent. 

Six (6) barangays are classified as critical risk. These are Barangays Baganihan, Dacudao, Dalag, New Valencia, Tagakpan and Ubalde while 72 barangays belong to high risk barangays.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, Spokesperson of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, on Wednesday’s Covid-19 Alert Program over the Davao City Disaster Radio said the critical and high-risk barangays are being prioritized for the mobile vaccination program initiated by the Vice Mayor’s Office and the city councilors.

“They are targetting herd immunity ani nga barangays. We want to protect these barangays kay since high risk sila, sila tong ubay-ubay og Covid-19 cases so sila atoang paspasan bakunahan aron protektado sila (They are targetting herd immunity in these barangays. We want to protect these barangays since they are high risk. They have many Covid-19 cases so they are our target for vaccination for their protection),” Schlosser said.

The latest data from the Vice Mayor’s Office as of September 19 showed that 38,172 individuals received the first dose and 1,029 for the second dose since their rollout of the mobile vaccination in August 

Besides the mobile vaccination, Dr. Schlosser said the City Health Office (CHO) regularly conducts huddle meetings with the Barangay Health and Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) to monitor each barangay’s Covid-19 response.

“Always mi naga update sa atoang mga barangay to give them continuous education, advisories kung unsay mga buluhaton nila when they belong in the critical and high-risk barangays (We are always updating our barangays to give them education, advisories on what to do when they belong in critical and high-risk barangays,)” she said.

Schlosser also called on the residents in critical and high-risk barangays not to be complacent and must continue to adhere to the minimum public health measures – wearing of the face mask and face shield, frequent washing of hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub, and physical distancing whenever in public places. 

And, get vaccinated as soon as it is your schedule to have a high degree of protection against getting seriously ill and dying from the disease.

“Magpakabana ta kay naa jud tay mga instances nga karon nga week walay cases, tapos pag abot sa couple of weeks tingala na lang nga nag saka na (Let’s get vaccinated because there are instances when there are no and suddenly the number rises again the following weeks),” she said. CIO
