The Davao City government has allowed some contact sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, and frisbee provided activities follow the guidelines of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force under a more relaxed restriction of Alert Level 2.

However, sports tournaments and competitions are still banned, Davao City Sports Division Head Mikey Aportadera said in an interview on Tuesday. Contact sports activities that will be allowed are meant for exercise purposes only.

ā€œKadtong mga favorite nato na mga dula, basketball, volleyball, football and frisbee, ibalik napud nato.. Since naa taā€™y guidelines nga gimugna pud sa Davao City, padayon na nato. (Our favorite games such as basketball, volleyball, football and frisbee we will resume them. Since we already have the guidelines crafted, we can resume),ā€ Aportadera said.

Aportadera underscored that the minimum public health guidelines should be followed even with the go-signal for contact sports.

ā€œBasta kadto lang we hold each and every one to be responsible na mag-amping, magbantay sa ilahang exposure. Ang ako lang kung dili pa ka kadula or naghulat ka as substitute, mag mask lang (We hold everyone responsible in exercising vigilance against their exposure. If it is not oneā€™s turn to play yet, or while waiting as a substitute, wear a mask),ā€ Aportadera said.

Aportadera said that his office will announce once there will be a revision or additional regulations for the guidelines in contact sports.

As to the organized sports events, Aportadera said that organizers shall give proposals on how to conduct events observing the minimum public health standards.

These proposals will be then elevated to the Public Safety and Security Command Center and other offices concerned.

ā€œIf you intend to come up with an event, let me know, i-propose sa akoa unsaon pagpadagan ana (If you intend to come up with an event, let me know, and propose how it will be conducted),ā€ Aportadera said.

Aportadera also said that he will further assess additional close contact sports which may be allowed and which may be proposed for approval by the Covid-19 Task Force. CIO
