The City Government of Davao targets to inoculate at least 1,000 Dabawenyos during the rollout of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines on Saturday, September 18 at the People’s Park.

Davao City COVID-19 Task Force Dr. Michelle Schlosser said during the Bakuna Program over the Davao City Disaster radio (DCDR) on Friday that as part of the government’s effort to achieve immunity, another vaccination activity will be conducted to cater to Dabawenyos from different sectors.

She invited Dabawenyos to participate in the activity. Walk-ins will be allowed during the vaccination rollout, which will start from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The target sectors for the vaccination are housemaids, vendors, employees, laborers; government employees; service delivery drivers (Shopee, Lazada, Grab, Food Panda, Tiktok etc.); senior citizens; sectoral group members who were not yet vaccinated; tricycle, habal- habal, taxi, and PUJ drivers; teachers; construction workers; ambulant vendors; those who are overdue for their second shot of the  Sinovac vaccine.

Schlosser added that they may also bring their family members and housemates to be vaccinated as well.

Anyone who wants to get vaccinated is also welcome as long as they are 18 years old and above.

Vaccinees are advised to bring pens, Davao QR, and ID.

“I hope nga i-take nato nga opportunity kay naa tay ubay-ubay nga tao nga in doubt pa sa atong bakuna (I hope that you will take this opportunity to get vaccinated because we continue to observe that some people are still in doubt about the efficacy of the vaccine),” Schlosser said.

She hopes that through the continuous information dissemination of the city government on different platforms, more Dabawenyos will be educated and appreciate the importance and benefits of getting vaccinated to fight the unseen enemy and protect them from its serious effects.

The City Government eyes to vaccinate 70 percent of the city’s 1.8 million population, which is equivalent to 1.2 million. To expedite the goal, more vaccination sites are being established to reach the 15,000 per day administered vaccines. Schlosser, however, said that the speed of the vaccination rollout will still depend on the available supply allocated by the national government.

Meanwhile, Schlosser expressed alarm over the rising number of cases in Davao City, citing house transmission as the prevalent reason. With this, she urged the public to refrain from organizing social gatherings such as birthdays and reunions to prevent the spread of infection.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) in the Davao Region shows that as of September 16, 2021, Davao City logged a total of 572 new cases with seven new deaths, bringing the total number of active cases here to 9,400.

The COVID-19 Task Force official renewed her call to the public to continuously observe the minimum public health protocol.CIO
