Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte cited the good performance of the City Health Office (CHO) that helped the city government earn recognition for “Most Innovative City for Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout” and the  “Highest Eligible Population – Fully Vaccinated for Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout”.

During his first media forum as Mayor of the City, Mayor Baste said that the awards for CHO were not surprising given the success of its anti-Covid vaccination rollout.

“I commend the City Health Office kay ever since man pud gyud ingon ana ang ilang performance. Labi na sa kadtong polio pud nato, I could not figure out how but they achieved 101 percent na vaccination coverage. Very performing office gyud nang CHO (I commend the City Health Office. Ever since they perform well, especially when they conducted the vaccination program for Polio, I could not figure out how but they achieved 101 percent vaccination coverage. CHO is a performing office),” he said.

Davao City received “Most Innovative City for Covic-19 Vaccination Rollout” and “Highest Eligible Population – Fully Vaccinated for Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout” during the National Vaccination Operations Center – Regional Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC-RVOC) Covid-19 Vaccination Program Planning Meeting on June 28, 2022, at the Apo View Hotel.

Vaccination Cluster Head Dr. Josephine Villafuerte attributed this accomplishment to Davao’s being the first city in Region 11 to reach the population target, which was set at 70 percent and later increased to 80.6 percent.

“We are the first city to have fully vaccinated above the target,” she said.

The increased number of vaccinees relates to the lessened number of cases, Villafuerte added.

She said that a supportive chief executive and opening of the sectoral vaccination, door-to-door vaccination, and other means to spread the opportunities most easily and possibly to the communities helped the city get the “ Most Innovative City”.

She also cited the partnership with the private sector in the sectoral vaccination and the cooperation of the malls also helped the city achieve its goals.

She added that apart from the above-mentioned factors, the public’s participation and cooperation in the vaccination rollout are worth mentioning.

“Dili lang ni sya effort sa city health, dili lang ni siya effort sa pang-gobyerno kundi effort ni sa tanan (This is not only the efforts of the City Health,  the government but by everyone) including the vaccinees who accepted the call for vaccination since they know what is good for them and what is good for the community. We wish to thank everyone for the support given to the city government, the City Health Office, and the community, as well,” Villafuerte said. CIO
