The Vaccination Cluster of the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force has lined up three school-based mobile vaccinations on Friday, June 10.

The schools to be visited are Doña Soledad Dolor Elementary School in the first district, Buhisan Elementary School in the second district, and Ramon F. Magsaysay Elementary School in the third district.

The Vaccination Cluster also met with Tito Pijano and Julieta Torres of the

Davao Colleges and Universities Network, Inc. (DACUN) on May 30, 2022, for the city’s school-based immunization rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines.

In a recent Davao City COVID-19 Task Force meeting, the Vaccination Cluster reported that DACUN is very much willing to participate in the vaccination rollout.

“They are set to meet with the other members of their board to discuss making it a policy to require vaccination among their students,” the Vaccination Cluster said.

Eight DACUN member schools have been identified for the school-based immunization.

A separate meeting was also held with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 11 on June 1, 2022, to discuss the COVID-19 vaccination situation in higher educational institutions (HEIs).

As of May 24, 2022, at least 19 of the 51 HEIs and 28 programs are conducting limited face-to-face classes.

At least 154,206 of 194,850 students were vaccinated but only 11,009 or 5.65 percent of those received booster shots while 7,366 or 96.67 percent of the 7,596 teaching personnel got primary doses but only 3,079 or 40.53 percent had their booster jabs.

Among HEIs’ non-teaching personnel, meanwhile, only 1,452 or 29.60 percent received booster doses of the 4,734 or 96.67 percent of fully vaccinated individuals.

Davao City COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser, in a previous Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) interview, said the school-based vaccination targets the five to 11 and 12 to 17 population age groups along with their parents and other family members.

Family members of students who will also be around the school during the vaccination rollout activity will be encouraged to get vaccinated whether for primary, missed, or booster doses, she said.

She urged parents to protect their children with vaccination as all levels of education might soon implement full face-to-face classes.

“Ayaw paabuta nga dili protected inyong mga anak. Give your children a good fight if ever man ma-infect because they will be protected against the severity of the disease through the vaccine (Don’t delay protection for your children. Give your children a good fight if ever they get infected because they will be protected against the severity of the disease through the vaccine),” Dr. Schlosser added.

She said the low vaccination turnout in the five to 11 years old has been their primary concern. Of the 242,209 target, only 19,639 (8.11 percent) received their first doses and 15,990 (6.60 percent) got their second doses as of June 3.
