The Davao City COVID-19 Task Force is currently locating, re-contact tracing, re-swabbing, and re-isolating the city’s 10 new COVID-19 Delta variant cases, raising the city’s total Delta cases to 16.
Davao City COVID-19 Task Force Dr. Michelle Schlosser bared this during the COVID-19 Alert program of the 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) program held on Wednesday, August 25.
Dr. Schlosser said, “As of today, we already have 16 cases. Una kay tulo tapos naging unom tapos additional 10 (At first we had three then it became six now with additional 10), which brings our Delta cases to 16 for Davao. Katong additional new delta cases nato, ang duha atong gina-verify pa if returning OFW, ang duha returning OFW jud, ang unom kay local transmission (Of the 10 new delta cases, the two are still being verified if they are returning OFWs, the others are returning OFWs, and the other six are local transmissions).”
The two unverified returning OFWs were swabbed in Manila.
She said they are currently expanding the contact tracing, swab testing, and isolation of the identified Delta cases.
“Ang ilang F1, F2, and F3 i-retrace og balik, reswab og balik, og re-isolate og balik (Their F1, F2, F3 will also be retraced, reswabbed, and reisolated),” the City Health Office (CHO) official said.
According to her, the city’s first six Delta cases have already recovered. The CHO team or health cluster is gathering all information of the new Delta cases and their first, second, and their generation contacts.
Dr. Schlosser said that the presence of the Delta variant in the city will most likely increase the transmission since it is highly infectious.
She reiterated her reminder to Dabawenyos, saying, “Whether unsa na nga (what) variant, we have always to be on our guard, maski unsa pa na (whatever variant that is). Follow minimum public health standard og magpabakuna jud ta kay mao raman jud ang atoang proteksyon sa sarili og sa atoang komunidad (and get vaccinated because that’s the only way to protect ourselves and our community). Cooperate ta sa tanang ordinance, tanang (Let’s cooperate in all ordinances and all executive orders) related to COVID-19 management. Kini sya gibuhat sa atoang (These have been done by our) good mayor, leaders, and lawmakers not to penalize but to protect the community.”
Davao City’s 10 new Delta Variant cases, according to the Department of Health (DOH) 11 press release dated August 23, include one 61-year-old male reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July 16; one 33-year-old male reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July 21; one 44-year-old male reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July 30, 2021; one 59-year-old female reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July 31; one 20-year-old male reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on August 2, 2021; one 34-year-old male reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on August 2, 2021; a 57-year-old male, returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July, 24; and a 38-year-old male ROF reported as a confirmed COVID-19 case on July 30.
The two Delta cases under verification include a 33-year-old male and a 48-year-old male who was reported as COVID-19 cases on August 1 and July 30, respectively, in Manila.
To date, Davao Region has a total of 28 Delta Variant cases – 16 from Davao City, six from Davao Oriental, four from Davao del Norte, one from Davao de Oro, and one from Davao del Sur.
DOH 11 underscored that “no single strategy is enough to beat this pandemic” and that “vaccination against COVID-19 coupled with the strict adherence to minimum public health standard will protect everyone from the dreadful complications of COVID-19.”CIO
