The Davao City Economic Enterprise (CEE) has set a monthly target of P2 million for the Malagos Slaughterhouse this year.

The city-owned enterprise, which started operations in September last year, has seen an increase in patronage after a private firm– one of the largest suppliers of meat products in the city –shut down their slaughterhouse operations earlier this month.

CEE Slaughterhouse Master IV Engr. Joseph Gabut said that on average, the Malagos Slaughterhouse processes 80 heads of swine daily. However, at the height of the holiday season in 2022, the slaughterhouse was able to process up to 700 heads in one day.

“Iyong income po natin na na-experience noong December, we garnered P1.8 million. Pero yong target natin this year will be around P2 million per month (Our income last December, we garnered P1.8 million. But our target this year will be around P2 million per month),” Gabut said during the I-speak media forum on Thursday.

The Malagos Slaughterhouse swine facility has also been accredited as a “AA meat establishment” by the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) on January 19. This means that pork products from the slaughterhouse can be supplied to clients nationwide.

Gabut said the accreditation effectively widened the market for the enterprise as this proves that the operational standards in the Malagos Slaughterhouse are guaranteed of the highest quality.

The swine processing facility includes state-of-the-art equipment capable of processing high volumes of swine carcass and meat, including cold facilities with blast-freezers, chilling room, and cold-storage.

“So meron tayong mga equipment diyan na pang-commercial ‘yong volume na maka-cater diyan sa ating mga kliyente. So this is one of the opportunities na gi-open ng LGU para sa mga micro, small and medium enterprises (So we have the equipment there for commercial volume that can cater to our clients. So this is one of the opportunities the local government unit has opened for micro, small and medium enterprises),” Gabut said.

“Naa tay one-stop shop ani para sa mga baboy. From slaughtering yung livestock then magiging carcass yan, then pwede mong i-chill tong carcass itself para sa mga meatshops, then pwede mo ring i-cut into different parts. If gusto mo, pwede mong ipa-process yan into bacon cut and also sausages (We have a one-stop shop for the swines. From slaughtering the livestock to turn into a carcass, then you can chill the carcass itself for the meatshops, or you can cut it into different parts. If you want, you can process that into bacon cut and also sausages),” he added.

Gabut said the Malagos Slaughterhouse also caters to individual clients but they will have to schedule an appointment. Rates are at P411 for one head of swine. CIO
