The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) is hosting the three-day (July 17-19) Davao Investments Conference (Davao ICON) at the SMX Convention in Lanang.
With the theme “Davao: Investments for the Future,” the conference will allow traders and investors to gather and establish significant connections aimed at propelling economic growth in Davao.
Aside from stimulating trade in the Davao Region, the conference also aims to highlight potential investments in the economic region of Brunei Darussalam – Indonesia – Malaysia – Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
The conference is participated in by 300 delegates made up of local and foreign traders, public officials from various national agencies, and the economic corps from the embassies of Bangladesh, Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Around 30 local businesses have also exhibited their products and services.
Davao ICON 2023 Chairperson Nicole Ledesma said the conference is a great way to showcase Davao City’s “strengths and competitive advantages” that makes it “the ideal destination for both local and foreign investments,” most especially manufacturing, agro-processing, tourism, and Information and Communication Technology industries- all of which are emerging sectors with the most potential in the region.
DCCCII President John Carlo Tria cited new public infrastructure, such as the Davao City Coastal Road and the Transportation Modernization Program, as proof of the accelerating growth of the city’s economy that will also help sustain the momentum of this growth.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, said the gathering will aid investors, local and foreign, to “discover and capitilize on investment and trade opportunities here in Davao” as the city recognizes business community’s contributions to the city’s growth and ongoing ecnomic recovery efforts.
“With the resumption of more businesses, we are confident that we shall see even higher growth figure this year,” Alejandre, quoting the mayor, said.
The councilor added that the success of the conference is testament to Davao City’s resiliency, unity, and commitment to furthering economic growth and stability in the region. CIO
