The Davao City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) on Monday kicked off the celebration of the 60th Fish Conservation Week.
Opened during the flag raising ceremony at city hall, this yearâs FishCon, themed âMasiganang Pangisdaan, Maunlad na Ekonomiya,â will be observed until September 22.
âAng FishCon gina-celebrate ni siya to recognize ang contribution sa atong fisher folk sector kay kabalo man ta na ang fisher folk nato dako pud og contribution sa atoang food security ug sa economy pud sa atong nasud (FishCon is being celebrated to recognize the contribution of our fisher folk sector because we know their contributions to our food security and national economy are quite significant,â said Aimee Evora, acting head of CAgrOâs Fisheries Resource Management Services Division.
Evora, in interview on Monday, invited the public, most especially those in the fisheries sector, to join the activities slated for this week.
On Monday, CAgrO dispersed tilapia fingerlings in the communal waters of Sitio Upian, Marilog. This will be followed by a Seaborne Patrol Operation in coastal waters in the city on September 19.
A Tilapia Harvest Festival, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, will be held in Barangay Biao Joaquin in Calinan on September 20. On the same day, CAgrO, in partnership with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource (BFAR), will be dispersing hito fingerlings in City Agriculturist district offices.
On September 20, CAgrO will hold a training seminar at its district office in Marilog. CAgrO and the BFAR will also distribute tilapia fingerlings in various district offices.
The office will also conduct trainings on Aquaculture in one of its district offices in Lumandao, Marilog on September 21. Another round of tilapia dispersal will also be conducted on the same day, also in partnership with BFAR, in various district offices.
On September 22, a mangrove planting activity will be conducted in Tambongon, Lasang where the culmination program of the weeklong celebration will take place. CIO
