About 300 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) will receive free medical check-ups on April 28, during the 6th anniversary celebration of PWD- Bago Gallera Chapter.
Talomo-B PWD President Jeffrey Ebad said in an interview on Thursday that they saw the need to conduct the activity to help PWDs who cannot go straight to hospitals for a check-up. The check-up will be conducted at the Bago Gallera Gym starting at 9 am.
âAng PWD kailangan gyud na sila ug ingon ana wala man gud silaây mga kwarta nga muadtog ospital kay syempre, dili man gyud na sila makalihok lihok kaayo, pinaagi sa medical mission mas napaduol sa ilaha (PWDs really need [medical check-ups] but they do not have money to go to hospitals, especially since some have problems in mobility. Through this medical mission the services are brought closer to them),â he said.
He added that a total of 15 doctors from Davao Doctors Hospital specializing in various fields of disability will be attending to patients.
Ebad said that the observed number of PWDs increased now because aside from the usual forms of disability, such as blindness, orthopedic, those with Down syndrome, patients undergoing dialysis and cancer patients are now considered as PWDs.
He said that the medical check-up initiatives will hopefully be replicated in the barangays soon so that the PWDs will have easy access to medical care.
Apart from free medical check-ups, in line with the anniversary, they will also have Mr. and Ms. PWDs, and a singing contest for the PWDs.
âNaa man gud uban nga dili mugawas kay maulaw mao na among dili gusto mahitabo (Some PWDs do not come out because they are ashamed, that is what we do not want to happen),â he said, adding that the talents of the PWDs will be showcased in such events. CIO
