Officials from Davao City and the organizer of Ironman on Monday confirmed the preparations of the Panabo City local government for the 70.3 Ironman triathlon set on March 26, 2023. This ends the series of consultative and coordination courtesy calls with three local government units that cover the race.

Assistant City Administrator Tristan Dwight Domingo, together with Sunrise Event General Manager Princess Galura, had a courtesy meeting with Panabo City Mayor Jose E. Relampagos on Monday to talk about preparations for the Ironman 70.3 race.

Domingo, in a brief during the meeting of IRONMAN-EXECOM at the Davao Light and Power Company Administration Building, confirmed that there has already been coordination between the medical team designated for the triathlon event and the said local government unit.

“We have already confirmed their preparations,” Domingo said.

On February 28, Domingo and Galura also talked with local government unit heads of Tagum City and Carmen, Davao del Norte for the race preparations.

Before the courtesy call, the organizers and the whole inter-agency technical team from local and national government agencies had a walkthrough for the 90 km bike course. The team made an ocular inspection of the turning point of the bike race, which was identified to be on Daang Maharlika Highway – between Timog Avenue and Capitol Road in Tagum City.

Meanwhile, on March 13, 2023, the Ironman-Execom Meeting was held with various concerned local, and national offices, including the private sector, and the barangays. A final briefing and a consultative meeting to prepare for the event were held to ensure that all sectors are informed and that all concerns will be addressed before the event.

During the meeting, PSSO Angel Sumagaysay said that for the security deployment, they had a maritime security meeting for the swim course and also a separate coordination meeting for the bike and run courses.

“We have facilitated a coordination meeting and discussed in the meeting security deployment plans for the DCPO, Task Force Davao, City Transportation and Traffic Management Office, and the Davao Del Norte Police Provincial Office,” Sumagaysay said.

Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office Head Dionisio Abude also said that they already distributed flyers for the road closures in the barangays that cover the race course. Letters of notification for establishments alongside or near the race area were also sent.

The transportation sector was also informed of the Ironman 70.3 race through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). In line with the event, the LTFRB also posted on Monday the road closures on March 24, 25, and 26 in detail on its FB Page.

During the Execom meeting, barangay captains, whose areas of responsibility include the race course, were also briefed that personnel from the barangays will become force multipliers during the event and will be on the look-out for residents, especially notifying them to avoid crossing the street while the race is on. Crossing of animals along the street during the race should also be prevented. CIO
