The City Government of Davao, through the Museo Dabawenyo, has started installing Christmas decorative materials, including the âparolâ made by inmates at the Davao City Jail, all over the city.
The star-shaped lanterns are made of bamboo. These come in yellow, green and red, following the Pasko Fiesta theme, âFairyland.â Some of last Christmas seasonâs decorative materials were repurposed to produce some of this yearâs lanterns.
Davao City started buying Christmas lanterns from the city jail in 2016.
Museo Dabawenyo Officer-In-Charge Winnie Rose Galay-Bulig, in an interview with the City Information Office on Tuesday, said the city placed an order of 300 parols for this yearâs Pasko Fiesta. She said the inmates were given monetary compensation by the lantern suppliers.
âFairyland ang atoang theme for this yearâs Pasko Fiesta. And then ang uban pud natong decorations majority ana is new, and then naa pod taây mga pipila nga mga recycled. Ug kanang makita nato na mga parol binuhat gihapon na siya sa mga inmates (Our theme for this yearâs Pasko Fiesta is Fairyland. And then for our decorations, majority of them are new, and there are some that are recycled. And those lanterns that we see were made by inmates),â Galay-Bulig said.
The lanterns will be displayed in center islands of the major streets and in all 22 public parks in the city.
âPati atong mga pocket parks, butangon gihapon nato na og Pasko Fiesta decorative materials (We will also put Pasko Fiesta decorative materials in our pocket parks),â she said.
Other Pasko Fiesta decorations will be installed in city lamp posts, overpasses, and flyovers. A 45-foot Christmas tree will also be assembled outside of City Hall. CIO
