Parents and children from the first district availed of some free services provided by the booth of members of the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) at Rizal Park Monday, November 7, 2022.

The services include free nutritional assessment, dental services, free mosquito repellants from City Health Office, free seedlings from City Agriculturist Office, registration services from the Local Civil Registrar, free information and education materials, and advocacy materials from various stakeholders.

Davao City Special Office for Children Concerns head Ms. Consorcia B. Ronquillo in an interview with City Information Office Monday said that they are overjoyed because this is the first SOCC- LCPC Serbisyo Caravan Para sa Pamilya ug Kabataan with a face-to-face program that breaks the two-year hiatus of events for Children’s Month.

“Dako kaayo ang kalipay no lahi ra gyud sa kumpara sa naa pay pandemya nga ang mga bata naa ra gyud sa sulod sa balay, karon after two years nga nakagawas na gyud ang pamilya ug kabataan no, dako namo nga kalipay lalo na sa local council for the protection of children and the four committees lalo na for the rights of children. (We are overjoyed because the celebration now is different from the [earlier] time of the pandemic wherein children are cooped up inside their houses. After two years they can go out with their families. It is our great joy, especially us the LCPC and the four committees for the rights of children),” she said.

She added that the short program was also fruitful as it showcased the talents of the children four years old and above and the overall city-wide champions for the daycare.

“Nakapakita sa ilang talent nakita sad nato ang ilahang kalipay no ug serbisyo gihatag sa stakeholder partners (They have shown their talents. We also witnessed their joy with the services that were given by the stakeholder partners),” Ronquillo said.

Before the Serbisyo Caravan, a joint manifestation of commitment was made by city government officials and employees to the cause of the protection of children as they pledged “Panatang Makabata” shortly after the reading of Proclamation No. 5, Declaring the Month of November as “National Children’s Month, was done. The activities of the month-long observance of National Children’s Month were announced.

The month-long activities for National Children’s Month include the Serbisyo Caravan Para sa Pamilya and will also be conducted on November 18, 2022 at the Buhangin Gym and on November 29, 2022 at the Crossing Bayabas Toril Gym.

A training program for the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) members and Barangay Tanods on the Management of Children will also be held from November 2-30, 2022.

The Survival Rights of Children will be highlighted on November 8 in radio guesting and discussion about Teenage Pregnancy, on November 13, another radio guest will be done for Mental Health Awareness of Children. On November 25, Project Angel Tree and Fun Day and PESO Davao and ICT Job Fair will be conducted at NCCC Buhangin. On November 18 & 23, USAID Job Fair will also be conducted at NCCC and the City Coop will also host the same dates Poster Making Contest for Laboratory Kids.

Various activities for Protection Rights and Participation Rights, will also be conducted.

The 29th Citywide Children’s Congress sponsored by the SOCC will be conducted on November 24-25, wherein the representatives from the 182 barangays, representatives of the children of OFWs, and representatives of persons with disabilities will craft a statement on their situation and the issues they are facing.
