The 20th Davao City Council has approved Tuesday the resolution of the Davao City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) to utilize the city’s Quick Response Fund (QRF) to extend Php 6 million financial assistance to calamity-stricken areas in the country.

Provinces are recommended to receive Php 1,000,000 while municipalities will get P300,000 each.

A total of 3.8 million in cash assistance was approved to help two provinces and six municipalities that declared state of calamity due to Super Typhoon Karding that hit the country this October.

Included under the fund are the provinces of Quezon and Nueva Ecija and the municipalities of Macabebe, Pampanga; San Miguel, Bulacan; Patnanungan, Quezon; Candaba, Pampanga; Dingalan, Aurora; and Cabangan, Zambales.

A separate fund of Php 1.9 million was allocated for areas affected by the July Luzon Magnitude 7.3 earthquake. These are the province of Abra, and the municipalities of Besao, Bauko, and Tadian in Mt. Province.

Tampakan, South Cotabato, which declared a state of calamity in July due to floods and landslides will get Php 300,000.

Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Head Alfredo Baloran, said that the recipient provinces and municipalities have complied with the documents needed before the cash aid will be released.

“Naa pud ta’y mga basis pod nganong atoa silang tabangan so naa’y mga requirements nga gina-submit dinhi sa atong opisina, ginaprocess nato. Gina-submit nato sa city budget for funding. Dili na siya basta-basta ihatag dayon, kinahanglan pa na siya i-approve sa city council, ila panang desisyonan, magpagawas na sila og ordinance nga i-approve nila (We have basis before we give them financial assistance so there are requirements that they submitted to our office and we processed it. We submitted it to the City Budget for funding. It is not easily distributed, the council must approve it first, and then they release the ordinance of their approval),” Baloran said.

He said that the 20th Davao City council already approved the resolution in Tuesday’s session.

Baloran committed that they will hand over the financial assistance to the treasurer and/or the city mayor of the identified areas. CIO
