The Vaccination Cluster of the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force recently conducted mobile vaccinations in three schools and also lined up similar activities this week.
At least 263 were vaccinated at the San Pedro College on September 23 while 150 received their anti-COVID-19 vaccine shots at the DMMA College of Southern Philippines on September 21, and 65 at the Assumption College of Davao on September 19.
The scheduled mobile vaccination stops from September 27 to 30 include the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) College of Law, AMYA Polytechnic College, Holy Cross College of Mintal, and DMMA DCSP.
Davao City COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser, during the COVID-19 Alert program of 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on September 28, underscored the importance of implementing the minimum public health standards (MPHS) inside campuses, such as wearing of face masks during classes or in enclosed and crowded areas and frequent handwashing.
She also said that with the face-to-face classes and other activities being conducted within and outside school premises, contracting COVID-19 is inevitable even if MPHS is strictly being observed since the virus is invisible.
Schlosser said, “Aside sa pag-intensify sa monitoring sa COVID-19 cases sa eskwelahan, i-intensify pud nato ang school vaccinations (Aside from intensifying the monitoring of COVID-19 cases in schools, we also need to intensify school vaccinations).”
Only through vaccination (primary two-dose series and boosters), according to her, will Dabawenyos have an additional layer of protection.
She said this amid the recorded COVID-19 cases among students and employees in graduate schools, colleges, and universities. A few cases were also logged among employees in elementary and secondary schools.
“Very good pa ilang immune system but data is showing us naa gihapon mamatay ani nga age groups (They have a strong immune system but the data is showing us that there are still those who die due to COVID-19 in these age groups),” the city health official, who also just recovered from the disease, said.
From September 18 to 24, Davao City had 14 new COVID-19 deaths including those in the seniors, pediatric, 20-29, and 30-39 population age groups.
Meanwhile, other sectoral vaccinations were also held in government offices and private offices and establishments.
A total of 122 individuals were inoculated at DMCI Homes Davao and 95 at Monteritz and Social Security System on September 24; 39 at the Bureau of Plant and Industry in Tugbok, 21 at Seda Hotel, and 91 at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on September 23; 48 at Grand Men Seng Hotel and 109 at Eastwest Bank along J.P. Laurel Avenue on September 22.
At least 66 personnel also got their vaccine shots at the Sasa Police Station, 14 at Autopit, and 43 at Villa Oro Ecoland on September 21; 63 at Conectys, 12 at LTFRB 11, and 157 at the Davao City Police Office on September 20; and 41 at the Philippine Statistics Authority on September 19. CIO
