The Davao City Police Office on Friday launched Oplan Kalinaw II, a security and community outreach program, in Barangay Centro Agdao.

Led by the Sta. Ana Police Station, over the 300 residents availed of free services such as general check-up, eye examination, business and financial literacy seminar, vehicle pre-registration, legal advice, and free haircut, among others.

The Task Force Davao, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Civil Service Unit and other offices from the local government unit participated in the program.

The Land Transportation Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coastguard, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, PRO XI Regional Medical and Dental Unit, Department of Trade and Industry also participated along with private stakeholders such as the Davao Durian Eagles Club, Davao Optima Eagles Club, and Mecca Iclinic Foundation.

DCPO Director PLt. Col. Alberto Lupaz, in in an interview with the City Information Office, said the program has been proven effective when it was implementated before the pandemic. He said one of the outcomes of the program was the vast improvement in the police-community relationship within the city.

“May mga stakeholders tayo na nagbibigay ng gamot, nagbibigay ng vitamins. Then nagpapakain din tayo. (We have stakeholders we are handing out medicines, vitamins. We also have a feeding program),” Lupaz said.

A live band also played during the event.

Lupaz said Oplan Kalinaw will not only foster trust and confidence between the city police forces and marginalized communities but will also ensure that “bad elements” will not live there. This will be done through the law enforcement agenda of the program which involves identifying transient persons of interest.

Lupaz added that fugitives apprehended under the program’s profiling scheme will be taken into custody.

In addition, Oplan Kalinaw also includes operation “Lambat-Bitag” which aims to weed out illegally procured or unregistered vehicles.

City Information Office Officer-in-Charge Harvey James Lanticse thanked and commended the DCPO for its relaunching of Oplan Kalinaw II. He also thanked the residents of Barangay Centro Agdao for their active participation in the program.

“The City Government of Davao will continue to support the campaigns and initiatives of the security cluster– of the Davao City Police Office –that promote the welfare of our constituents and, at the same time, ensure the continued security and order of Davao City,” Lanticse said.

The DCPO aims to conduct Oplan Kalinaw II all over Davao City at least twice a month. CIO
