A total of 10 contingents will vie for the Indak-Indak P1-M prize.

Event Organizer Harold Quibete, during the AFP-PNP Press Corps Media Forum at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday August 17, 2022, said that five contingents for the open category and five for the Davao school-based category will fight for the grand prize of the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan Competition set on August 20, Saturday.

On the final list of participants for the Davao-Based Category are Santa Ana National High School (the defending champion), Mabini National High School, Bernardo D. Carpio National High School, Dona Carmen Denia National High School, and Technical Education and Skills Development Region 11.

For the open category, the participants are from the Samal Island City College – Local Government Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Palabuniyan Cultural Dance Ensemble – LGU of the Municipality of Pikit in North Cotabato, and Sidlakan Performing Ensemble of the Municipality of Malita in Davao Occidental, Youth OLMAG Performing Arts Guild of Kidapawan City, and defending champion Sindac Anib Performing Ensemble from Bislig City, Surigao del Sur who will defend their title as Indak Indak sa Kadayawan 2019 winner.

For the Open category and Davao City School-Based, each grand champion will get P1 million, P500,000 for the second place winners, Php 400,00 for the third place, Php 300,000 for the fourth place, and Php 200,000.00 for the fifth place.

The Best Music will bag Php 20,000, Best Choreography Php 50,000 and the Best Mask, Php 20,000.

Quibete said that The Best Mask category in the competition is the newest feature of the Indak-Indak and the group, which will grab it are those who can wear it properly and incorporate it well in their costume.

“[For the best mask] it should be wearable, it should have artistic value and it should be relevant to the type of presentation, more especially, it should match their costumes,” Quibete said, adding that there is no regulation on mask design, as long as it covers the nose and mouth.

As to the concern that the dancers might find it uncomfortable to wear masks while dancing, Quibete said that as the organizer of the event they stand with the ordinance of the city that requires the wearing of face masks.

“Actually if ever we (allow) performers
To not wear masks, we might as well remove all of our masks because it is very uncomfortable seeing a performance wearing mask. We have to understand the fact that we have to wear masks because this is part of the recommendation of our City Health Office and the City Government of Davao to observe our minimum health protocols,” Quibete said.

Quibete said that while mask wearing is mandatory, it was suggested during a meeting that contingents should do rehearsals with masks so they will be trained and sustain their energy level from the Rotunda up to the San Pedro Square.

The Indak-Indak will start at 7 a.m. from Roxas Avenue to Corner C.M Recto Avenue, then to Rotunda Ponciano-Roxas Avenue, then right turn to C.M Recto Avenue, then right turn to Bonifacio Street, then left turn to Pelayo St., then left turn to San Pedro St.
