The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a three-day Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) training for the members of the Disaster Council. The training took place from July 12-14, in line with National Disaster Resilience Month.
CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran in an interview with Byaheng DO30 said that the participants of the activity will conduct a rapid assessment each time there is a calamity in the city. He said that identified teams per office will help in the assessment of damage, and their knowledge and capacity to perform each of their tasks is very vital in disaster response.
âThe importance is this, we need to know what are the extent of damages and the immediate needs of those affected individuals and also the affected areas para makabalo ta unsa ang atong dapat i-extend nga tabang sa mga victims of calamity (The importance of this is that we need to know the extent of damages and the immediate needs of affected individuals and also the affected area so that we will know what assistance we can extend to calamity victims),â Baloran said.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the City Engineers Office, the City Health Office, the City Veterinarian Office, the City Planning, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the City Agriculturist Office, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office attended the training.
During the training, a representative from the Office of the Civil Defense instructed the participants on their tasks and taught them how to gather the right information after a disaster.
CSWDO Emergency Focal Person Annabelle Lugo, in an interview with Byaheng DO30, said that the training is a big help to them as it equipped them with the knowledge of what they need to do after a disaster.
âKani nga training makatabang siya sa amoa kay kung adunay kalamidad immediately amo gyud dapat masubay unsa ang sitwasyon sa mga apektadong pamilya o katawhan so dako siya nga tabang sa amoa (This training really helps us because every time there is a calamity we learned to always check/monitor the situation of the affected families and people so it is really a great help to us),â she said.
The CDRRMO continues to warn Dabawenyos to always be on alert and follow the warnings issued by authorities so that they can be safe, in times of calamities, especially with the advent of the rainy season.
Aside from the training for RDANA, a three-day Basic Incident Command Training course was also conducted by the CDRRMO for the selected personnel from 14 offices of the city from July 5-7. Such training marked the start of the celebration of Disaster Resilience Month in Davao City.
Among the other activities slated for the observance of Disaster Resilience Month are the accreditation meeting with disaster volunteers, and the Walk the Creek where the members of the CDRRMC would visit creeks in the city that continuously overflow during heavy rains. CIO
