The City Government of Davao is offering roughly P3.3 million in total cash prize for the Pamulak sa Kadayawan (Floral Float Parade) set on August 21, 2022.
The top three winners in the big category will receive P800,000, P600,000, and P400,000 while two consolation prizes of P75,000 will also be awarded to deserving entries.
In the small category, cash prizes of P400,000, P300,000, and P200,000 will be up for grabs for the first, second, and third placers, respectively. Two consolation prizes of P50,000 will also be given away.
In the alternative category, the champion will get P150,000 while P75,000 will be for the runner-up, and P50,000 for the third placer. The next two entries will each claim P20,000.
The Kadayawan sa Davao Facebook page released the official guidelines and mechanics of the floral float competition, which is open to any person, group, organization, institution, or company.
āThe floral floats may be a free interpretation in the celebration of life, thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, and the bounties of the harvest of the city. Its traditions, myths, and legends shall depict the theme or concept of the Kadayawan sa Davao 2022 celebration, āKasikas sa Kadayawan,āā the guidelines stated.
A big float entry shall have a minimum size of eight feet in width and 16 feet in length, with at least 80 percent fresh flowers, plants, fruits, or vegetables as a medium.
The maximum height of all big floats shall be 14 feet from the ground.
Meanwhile, the small float shall be anything below eight feet in width and 16 feet in length including indigenous or extraordinary small vehicles or contraptions that may either be motorized or manually driven. Entries may also include but not be limited to mini-cars, golf carts, mini tractors, push carts, karo, and pedicabs, etc.
Small floats, with a maximum height of 14 feet from the ground, must use at least 80 percent fresh flowers, plants, fruits, or vegetables as a medium.
Participants in the alternative float division can use anything indigenous or extraordinary small vehicles or contraptions, trolleys, or wheelers that should be animal-driven; not electric, motorized, or fuel-powered vehicles.
At least 80 percent of fresh flowers, plants, fruits, vegetables, and even animals must be adorned as a medium. The maximum height for all floats is 14 feet from the ground.
A non-competing corporate floats category is also entered and all entries are required to use at least 20 percent fresh flowers, plants, fruits, or vegetables as a medium. The floats shall have a maximum height of 14 feet from the ground.
An entry fee of P25,000 shall be collected for corporate floats that promote a product or commercial business or establishment.
Participants must also submit a description and explanation of the float’s symbolism in a maximum of 150 words on or before but not later than August 8, 2022, as it will be read during the parade when each float approaches the end point of the parade route.
The deadline for submission of entries is on August 8, 2022.
