The Educational Benefit System Unit (EBSU) of the Office of the City Mayor has extended the submission of requirements for the Davao City scholarship programs to cater to the students from the public schools whose grades will be released only in the second week of July.

Students who have applied for the city government’s scholarship programs have until July 15, 2022, to submit the scholarship requirements.

EBSU Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo Jr. announced this after his office received the go-signal from Mayor Inday Sara Duterte on Wednesday.

“Nag-request ang mga parent ilabi na tung nag-enroll sa mga public schools nato kay mag end paman gud daw second week of July ang releasing sa grades nila. Among gipaabot kay mayor na mag-extend ta naaprubahan pud gahapon (The parents of the students who are enrolled in public high schools have requested to extend because the releasing of grades will end only on the second week of July. We relayed this request for extension to Mayor Sara and it was approved),” he said in an interview with the City Information Office (CIO).

Domingo said that the students or their parents may still submit their scholarship requirements at the designated area in front of the City Planning and Development Office. The full list of requirements for interested applicants for STEP Scholarship, Medical and Law School Scholarships can be accessed on: https://www.facebook.com/davaocitygov/posts/158191020056146

“We have more than 200 slots, 175 slots for STEP, 15 slots for Medical School, and 20 slots for Law School,” Domingo said, adding that there may be open slots after the period for scholarship renewal.

Domingo said that scholars who will not be able to renew will lose their slot.

As of June 22, 2022, more than 700 applicants for STEP, 20 for Medical School, and 20 for Law School submitted their documentary requirements for the application.

To qualify for the scholarship programs, students should have a 93 percent average grade for STEP and an average grade of 85 percent for the Medical and Law Education Assistance Program. “Kailangan mamili ta’g scholar na makita nato nga magagaling gyud para dili pud masayang ang pondo sa city government. Dili man gud ni siya ayuda nga ihatag lang bisan kinsa. Kini atoang scholarship mani siya para lang ni siya sa deserving na estudyante (We need to select scholars who have excellent grades so that the city government funds will be used well. This is not some kind of assistance that can be availed of by anyone. This scholarship is intended for the deserving students),” Domingo said.

Domingo said that they aim to finalize the list of 2,000 qualified new and old scholars before the start of the school year 2022-2023. CIO
