The Public Safety and  Security Command Center (PSSCC), the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 declared that Davao City’s security and safety units are ready for the inauguration and oath-taking of Vice President-elect Mayor Inday Sara Duterte on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

In a press conference held at the Camp Captain Domingo Leonor Wednesday, PSSCC Head. Angel Sumagaysay said that the security forces in the city are now ready to implement the security plan after a series of coordinating conferences with security clusters in and out of the Davao Region. He said, “For me, naka-ready na talaga ang security and safety clusters and we are ready to implement the security plan (the security and safety clusters are ready to implement the security plan).”

PRO-11 Director Brig. Gen. Bejamin Silo Jr. said that three other regions surrounding Region XI will be cooperating in the security efforts, particularly on border control measures. Silo also declared that the 5-day (June 16-21, 2022) gun ban will not only be implemented in Davao City but over the entire Davao Region

“We’ll be having very strict border checkpoints, four regions will be participating in this undertaking—Regions 10, 12, and 13. And all provincial police offices under PRO-11 will do the same thing. So during the checkpoints, one of the priorities there will be ang pagdadala ng baril (carrying firearms). So kahit na may lisensya ka, may violation ka (even if you have a license, you will have a violation) because suspended ang permit to carry of firearms outside of the residence,” Silo said.

Meanwhile, DCPO director Alberto Lupaz announced that a series of run-throughs and simulations will also be conducted before the event.

“The Davao City Police Office is ready ‘no, but of course, the nitty-gritty and the raining down of personnel on the ground sa amin ‘yon. So I think meron pa kaming maraming bagay pa na gagawin. But overall, security operation natin okay na. Meron kaming scheduled convoy run, meron kaming scheduled na run-through, then meron kaming scheduled na parang simulation of deployment of personnel doon sa San Pedro Square (The Davao City Police Office is ready ‘no, but of course, the nitty-gritty and the raining down of personnel on the ground, that’s on us. We have a scheduled convoy run, a scheduled run-through, then we also have a scheduled simulation of personnel deployment on the San Pedro Square)”, Lupaz said.

In a later interview during the Madayaw Davao program aired over the Davao City Disaster Radio Friday, DCPO spokesperson Major Ma. Teresita Gaspan said that 4, 200 security personnel will be deployed to the event venue.

Sumagaysay reminded attendees that all city ordinances on security and safety will be implemented at all times. This means backpacks, pointed objects, non-transparent bottled water, and jackets are not allowed in the area.  Alcoholic drinks and drones are also prohibited. Sumagaysay added that four entrances will be open for admission to the general public. Security officers will be monitoring crowd numbers, which are expected to reach 25, 000.

On top of this, Silo assured the public that their safety is the priority of all security units during the event.

“Maasahan niyo po na ang kapulisan, ang kasundaluhan ay nandiyan sa okasyon na yan para siguraduhin po ang kaligtasan hindi lamang ng unang pamilya pati po lahat ng manonood na publiko sa araw na iyon (Trust that the police and military are there on that occasion to ensure not only the security of the first family but of the public as well),” Silo said.  CIO
