The Health Cluster of the Davao COVID-19 Task Force has terminated the vaccination sites in seven public schools as the Department of Education (DepEd) get ready for the resumption of face-to-face classes in all levels in the city.
Davao COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser, during a recent interview over 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), bared that the seven school vaccination hubs include Magallanes Elementary School (ES), F. Dizon ES, Matina Aplaya ES in the first district; Buhangin Central Elementary School in the second district; Malagos ES and Mintal Central ES in the third district; and special site Maa National High School.
“The reason behind this kay ang Deped magbalik na ang face-to-face classes. Dapat in one of their preparations, they will take their schools back especially tong gigamit nato sa vaccination sites (The reason behind this is that Deped will soon resume the face-to-face classes. In one of their preparations is taking back their schools that we used as vaccination sites),” she said.
Dr. Schlosser, however, assured that Davao City has a sufficient number of operational vaccination sites.
She added, “Dili lang mag worry. We will keep the vaccination sites for 12 years old and above population. Naa gihapon sa People’s Park and Crocodile Park. Hopefully, ma put up na ang Magsaysay Park for 12 and above adult vaccinees (Don’t worry. We will keep the vaccination sites for the 12 years old and above population. We still have the People’s Park and Crocodile Park. Hopefully, the Magsaysay Park vaccination site will soon become operational).”
The People’s Park and Crocodile Park, according to her, are also open on Saturdays for walk-ins or drive-thru.
The city health official also said that aside from the parks, vaccination for the pediatric population five to 11 years old is ongoing at SM City Davao, SM Lanang Premier, Gaisano Mall Bajada, Abreeza Ayala Malls, Gaisano Mall Toril, Gaisano Mall Calinan, and Gaisano Mall Tibungco.
Dr. Schlosser said most parents think it’s better to have their children vaccinated in malls as they can eat or play after getting their jabs as a way of compensating them for their fear.
She also said that children often associate malls with recreation and entertainment. Thus they would be more comfortable getting vaccinated inside the malls.
