The City Government of Davao has declared no objection to all face-to-face classes applications of private and public schools, from kindergarten to post-graduate studies.

Executive Order (EO) No. 9, Series of 2022, otherwise known as “An Order Declaring No Objection To All Applications For Face-To-Face Classes In Private And Public Schools From Kindergarten To Post-Graduate Studies,” was signed on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

“Following the continuous decrease in the number of cases in the city as well as its active vaccination rollout, there is a need to bolster the reopening of schools for face-to-face classes to ensure continuity of academic instruction as we transition to the new normal,” EO 9 said.

It also cited that Davao City is currently at 85.93 percent for first doses and 84 percent for second doses of 80 percent of the city’s total population. The city is also at 16.34 percent for booster shots out of the total number of fully-vaccinated individuals as of February 28, 2022.

The Order, however, underscored that the strict implementation of the minimum public health standards (MPHS) must still be observed in schools, particularly the wearing of face masks and physical distancing.

Guidelines from the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and other relevant government agencies must also be followed.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution No. 163-A, dated February 27, 2022, placed Davao City under Alert Level 1 from March 1 to 15, 2022. This lifted all restrictions enforced during Alert Level 2.

But Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the spokesperson of the Davao City Task Force on COVID-19, reiterated that Dabawenyos should not be complacent at all.

“With no restrictions and there are face-to-face gatherings, we have to make sure that the minimum public health standards are implemented. The data is showing that the most effective way in protecting ourselves is still MPHS – wearing of face mask and social distancing,” she told the City Information Office (CIO) in a Viber interview on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
