The Davao City government has recorded over 1.16 million Dabawenyos who are now fully vaccinated as of January 6, 2022.
Based on the report from the Vaccination Cluster, Dabawenyos who received anti-Covid vaccines reached a total of 2,401,674. Of the number, 1,237,997 received the first dose and 1,163,677 for the second dose.
But given this number, the city government noted a slow turn out of booster vaccination with only 49,215 Dabawenyos who availed of the third jab as an added layer of protection against Covid-19 infection.
“Another layer of protection will not hurt labi na that we are anticipating a surge and we are also anticipating the arrival of a variant na mas massive ang spread, kasi kaning Omicron although milder siya, the spread is exponential (Another layer of protection will not hurt, especially that we are anticipating a surge and the arrival of a variant with massive spread because Omicron although milder can have exponential spread),” Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said.
She earlier reported that the city is already fast-tracking requests for more vaccine allocation for booster vaccination for those who opt to have a heterologous booster.
Schlosser has emphasized the need for unvaccinated individuals to get vaccinated as soon as possible citing studies that vaccination could mitigate the progression of the infection to severe and critical cases.
“Kung unvaccinated ka dako gyud ang possibility nga mu-progress siya into severe and critical. Actually this is based on December 31, na data from Department of health na approximately 90% sa nagpositive sa Davao Region na nakatala og severe to critical cases are those who are unvaccinated so dako gyud kaayo og tabang nga magpabakuna ta (If you are not vaccinated there is a big possibility that it will progress into severe and critical based on the December 31 data of the Department of Health that approximately 90 percent of those who got positive in Davao Region were listed as severe to a critical case are those who are unvaccinated. So it is a huge help to be vaccinated),” she added
Covid-booster shots and vaccines for first and second doses are available on the vaccination sites posted on the Facebook page of the City Government of Davao. CIOFacebookTwitter
