Davao City is the top local government unit in Davao Region with the most vaccinated individuals, recording 88 percent of the target population protection coverage for the first dose.

The Department of Health (DoH) Region 11 reported that following Davao City with most vaccinated individuals are Boston, Davao Oriental who administered the first dose to 79.7 percent of the target population; and, Panabo City, Davao Del Norte with 75.6 percent for the first dose. This, based on Covid-19 vaccination coverage as of December 3, 2021.

DoH-XI in its statement noted that the LGUs have taken great leaps in fighting the Covid-19 through ongoing efforts in communities, and such does not only protect people but allows economic activities to reopen to support livelihoods and quality of life.

“The continuing success of the vaccination efforts throughout the region gives us a glimmer of hope and victories to celebrate. We honor the hard work of our healthcare heroes who have been tirelessly working to provide access to the Covid-19 vaccines to every corner of the Davao Region,” said Dr. Annabelle Yumang, DOH XI regional director.

Congratulations to these LGUs! Here’s to better days ahead–towards excellence in healthcare!” the statement read.

Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio factored the city government’s continued information campaign on reaching over one million fully vaccinated individuals as of December 6, 2021.

“Actually ang Davao City ang isa sa pinakadaghang strategies to hit our target. Magpadayon lang siguro ta sa mga strategies, strengthen lang nato (Davao City is one of those with many strategies to hit our target. We will just continue with our strategies and strengthen them),” she said.

The city health official said the city’s information dissemination campaign is an important strategy to encourage Dabawenyos to get vaccinated.

She said the city councilors, the security cluster, and the health sector continue to hold a series of dialogues with tribal leaders and residents in geographically isolated disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) who still have apprehensions about the Covid-19 vaccination program.

Schlosser said that the mobile and house-to-house vaccination drive of the Vice Mayor’s Office and the city councilors are ongoing, as well as the Bakuna Nights and all the vaccination hubs are open for walk-ins. District health officers also conduct their mobile vaccinations aside from putting up a vaccination site, and the fast lane or drive-thru at People’s Park.

“All strategies atoa nang na-employ sa Davao City. The success of our program labi na gyud vaccine sa Covid-19 is pag-change sa behavior sa tao o mindset sa tao. All strategies naa ta. Ang behavior is hard to change (We have already employed all strategies in Davao City. The success of our COVID-19 vaccination program lies in changing the behavior and mindset of the people. We all have strategies. But the behavior is difficult to change),” Dr. Schlosser said.

Schlosser reiterated the city government’s appeal to Dabawenyos to strictly comply with the minimum public health standards (MPHS) and to also get vaccinated as the Christmas holidays are approaching.

She said that part 2 of the Bayanihan Bakunahan will hopefully help the city to reach the target number of population protection of 1,299,894 for the first dose. As of December 10, 2021, the city already administered a total of 1,191,694 first doses or 91.68 percent and 1,046,084 second doses or 80.47 percent of the target population protection. CIO
