The City Government of Davao-City Hall Building recently received the Safety Seal certificate for following safety and health protocols against COVID-19.

The Safety Seal is a voluntary certification issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)- Davao City Government Operations Office, Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and Davao City Fire District (DCFD) to affirm that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government, and uses or integrates its contact tracing with staysafe.ph.

The Safety Seal, under the DOLE-DOH-DOLG-DOT-DTI Joint Memorandum Circular No. 21-01 Series of 2021, was issued to the Davao City Hall Building because the DILG, DCPO, and DCFD found it compliant with the minimum public health standards.

The DILG, DCPO, and DCFD inspected the City Hall Building on November 10, 2021. The Safety Seal was issued on the same day and is currently being displayed prominently at the City Hall Building’s entrance lobby.

Internal Audit Service Division (IASD) Officer-in-Charge Atty. Sarah Phoebe L. Paclibar said, “The issuance of the Safety Seal affirms the compliance of the City Government of Davao with the minimum public health standards.”

She also said, “This is also a testament that the City Government also seriously implements what it has been promoting since the start of the pandemic, which is wearing a face mask, observing physical distancing, and ensuring adequate ventilation, among others.

This is a very important recognition since the City Government needs to lead by example for other agencies and individuals to follow.”

The Safety Seal issuing authority differs depending on the type of industry to which the applicant belongs. For LGUs, the DILG, PNP, and BFP jointly issue the authorization.

The IASD and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) spearheaded the application for the Safety Seal for the City Government of Davao-City Hall Building.

HRMO head Lemuel Ortonio, for his part, said, “The Safety Seal is more of a recognition that the City Hall as a building has complied with the standards in ensuring the safety of the employees and clients during this pandemic.”

Since the Safety Seal is issued per building, the IASD and HRMO are currently preparing to apply for the city government’s Annex Building and the Davao City Tourism, Investment and Promotions Building.

The Safety Seal Certification Program aims to assure consumers and the public in general of establishments’ compliance with the minimum public health standards set by the government; encourage the adoption of the StaySafe.ph digital contact tracing application to strengthen the contact tracing initiative of the government and effectively contain the spread of COVID-19, and safely reopen the economy.

The Safety Seal shall be valid for six months from the date of issuance and shall be renewable subject to continued compliance with the eligibility requirements set.CIO
