As anti-Covid restrictions ease up, Davao City perks up the Christmas spirit in the city with the installation of 600 3D white lanterns in the city’s traffic center islands from Matina Area-University of Mindanao to GSIS, Boulevard, and the Carlos P. Garcia highway near Davao City International Airport.
Jason Arceo, the Officer-In-Charge of Museo Dabawenyo, said the city light up these parols to give hope amid the evolving coronavirus pandemic with this year’s Christmas celebration theme “Kahayag sa Paglaum”.
“These lanterns have a more detailed 3-D look compared to last year,” said Arceo.
Arceo said that majority of these parols are made of recycled materials from the previous year. He said that this year the city officially tapped the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology with the help of the inmates to make the 300 parols while the city personnel made the remaining 300 to complete the 600 parols.
More Christmas decors are also being set up by the team from the same office at City Hall Drive, SP Building, and Rizal Park. However, the date of lighting of decors in the said areas is not final yet.
As Christmas season is slowly felt, the City Government also invites Dabawenyos to celebrate Christmas in the city through their active participation in the Pasko Online Activities. Families are encouraged to join the online competitions of the city government’s month-long Christmas festival – the Davao PaskOnline Fiesta (DPF), with more than P200,000 worth of cash prizes and other gifts up for grabs.
The DPF started in early November to give Dabawenyos more time to prepare their entries for the online activities that include Himig ng Paskong Dabawenyos (An Online Family Caroling Competition); Family Tiktok Ngayong Pasko (An Online Family Dance Competition); Christmas Cards of Hope (The Davao Pasko Fiesta Family Christmas Card Making Competition); and Paskong Litrato ng Pamilyang Dabawenyo (a family Christmas Photo Contest).
