THE City Government of Davao will assist families whose houses were damaged during the recent flooding in the city.
Lawyer, Marlisa Gallo, the Head of the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) said that her office will give aid to the owners of the two totally damaged houses – one at Barangay Cabantian and one at Matina Crossing, and 15 partially damaged houses at Barangay Talomo Proper.
She said that owners of totally damaged house will receive maximum of P20,000 each while for partially damaged maximum of P15,000 each.
As of October 29, 2021, CSWDO validated a total of 4,149 families or 13,474 individuals affected by the flooding incidents in Barangays Cabantian, Communal, Angliongto, Matina Crossing, Matina Pangi, Matina Aplaya, Bago Aplaya, and Talomo Proper. It is still looking into other affected areas.
The total estimated cost of damage due to the flooding incident is estimated at P3,435,000.00.
Alfredo Baloran, the Chief of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, in a previous interview, said that no deaths or injured persons were recorded in the aftermath of the flooding incidents.
Families were able to conduct pre-emptive evacuation before the water from overflowing creeks and rivers reached them.
The flooding incidents occurred after the Lipadas River, Matina River, Bunawan River, and Aklihan and Mintal Creek (tributaries of Talomo River) overflowed to the residential areas.
Baloran earlier advised the public to be more cautious and mindful as La Niña brings heavy downpours which could suddenly occur during the day and is expected to stay until the first quarter of next year, 2022. CIO
