At least 51,567 individuals received their anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses under the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP)-led mobile vaccinations in Davao City as of October 5, 2021.
The Vaccine Cluster of the Davao COVID-19 Task Force reported that of the 51,567 vaccinees in the barangays, 12,216 got their second jabs.
Fully vaccinated individuals, including those who got single doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, now reached 13,257 courtesy of the mobile vaccinations.
Davao COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michellse Schlosser, during the COVID-19 Alert program of 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) aired on Wednesday, October 6, urged Dabawenyos to get themselves vaccinated as soon as they can.
“Padayon gihapon tong mga pagpabakuna. Before ang atoang strategy of combating COVID-19 is PDITR – prevention, detection, isolation, treatment, reintegration but karon PDITR plus, ang plus ang vaccination. We have to make sure all these strategies ma-implement sa mga komunidad (We continue our vaccination rollout. While we have the PDITR strategy before – detect, isolate, treatment, and reintegration but now it’s PDITR plus, the plus is vaccination. We have to make sure all these strategies are implemented in these communities),” the city health official said.
She said these strategies are effective in combating and mitigating the spread of COVID-19 infection, hoping that it would cut the chain of infection among Dabawenyos.
Dr. Schlosser said, “That’s why we push vaccination to achieve herd immunity. The virus constantly evolves and mutates. Para maprotekysunan ta in case there are mutations, pabakuna na ta (To protect ourselves in case there are mutations, let’s get vaccinated. The virus seems to stay, make sure makadaug ta (we win) against this battle. We have to protect ourselves.”
In Barangay R. Castillo, about 301 got their first Sinovac jabs in the mobile vaccination spearheaded by the Office of City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang on October 5.
On October 4, Sinovac first doses were also administered to 481 residents of Barangay Panacan through the Office of Councilor Dante Apostol and to 300 New Valencia residents via the Office of Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado. The Office of Councilor Wilfredo Al-Ag catered to 286 Barangay Camansi residents who got their second Sinopharm shots on October 3.
The offices of Councilors Richlyn Justol (Brgy. Communal, 414 second dose Sinopharm vaccinees), Victorio Advincula Jr. (Brgy. Sibulan, 258 first dose Sinovac vaccinees), Mary Joselle Villafuerte (Brgy. Tamayong, 581 second dose Sinopharm vaccinees), Alberto Ungab (Brgy. Angalan, 725 second dose Sinovac vaccinees), Javi Garcia Campos (Brgy. San Isidro 456 second dose Sinopharm vaccinees), and Mabel Sunga Acosta (Brgy. 4-A, 413 second dose Sinopharm vaccinees) also led mobile vaccinations held on October 2.
The mobile vaccinations, which began on August 3, were earlier requested by Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte to the Vice Mayor’s Office and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod to help hasten the city’s vaccination rollout and reach the target 1.2 million herd immunity before the year ends.
Individuals under the priority A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (adults with comorbidities) groups are the focus of the SP-led mobile vaccinations. In the wake of the COVID-19 surge in the city, however, mobile vaccinations then included residents of high-risk barangays.
In the weekly Vaccine Cluster mobile vaccination report from September 27 to October 3, a total of 11,183 individuals were inoculated in Davao City’s 26 barangays, including 7,414 fully vaccinated and 4,497 with first doses. CIO
