A Davao City health official bared that the city has not recorded a single vaccine-related death, seven months after the start of the vaccination rollout in March, denying anew reports about it from unverified sources.

Davao City COVID-19 spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said on Friday, over the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), that they have received reports of individuals who may have died after getting vaccinated but during the investigation, it turned out that those were not vaccine-related.

“[Davao City has] zero incidents of vaccination-related deaths. There was [an] investigation nga gibuhat [that was conducted] just to make sure na kung [that it was] vaccination-related and it was found out by the Department of Health (DOH) that it was not vaccination-related,” Schlosser said.

In the Davao City vaccination report as of September 25, 2021, the Davao City Vaccination Cluster said that the city now has a total of 583,002 fully vaccinated residents while 716,793 have been administered with their first dose.

For Priority A1 (Health Care Workers), a total of 60,966 have received their 1st Dose while 53,100 were inoculated with the second dose; Priority A2 (Senior Citizens) 1st Dose: 90,097 and 2nd Dose: 84,052; Priority A3 (Persons with Comorbidities) 1st Dose: 165,446 and 2nd Dose: 145,099; Priority A4 (Essential Workers) 1st Dose: 340,477 and 2nd Dose: 272,967; Priority A5 (Poor Population) 1st Dose: 59,807 and 2nd Dose: 27,784.

Based on the data from DOH Davao Region, Davao City now has a total of 49,678 confirmed cases with 39,518 recoveries while 1,546 deaths have been recorded as of October 1, 2021.

Schlosser said that in their morbidity week status covering September 19 to September 25, the city logged a total of 2,431 COVID-19 positive cases and of this figure, 2,107 are unvaccinated. This only goes to show that getting vaccinated adds another layer of protection from contracting the deadly virus.

The health official said that while they respect the opinions of anti-vaxxers, she still encouraged them to open their mind on the effects of getting the shot saying that vaccines are safe and effective.

She underscored that investigations done by DOH on reports of vaccine-related deaths are “thorough” but after the probe, it was proven that the cases have no direct link to the vaccination rollout of the government.

She further assured the transparency and veracity of the information that they released to the public amid doubts on the integrity of the data.

Meanwhile, Schlosser said that the city’s COVID-19 figure is decreasing with an average of 200 to 300 total cases per day compared to previous weeks, when the city noted around 500 to 700 cases per day. However, she said that Dabawenyos should not be complacent and continue to observe the minimum public health protocol.CIO
