The City Government of Davao is readying for the rollout of the anti-Covid vaccination for children 12 to 17 years old starting on October 15, 2021.

Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser during the COVID-19 Alert Program over the Davao City Disaster Radio Wednesday said the city government is just waiting for the final guidelines on the children’s anti-Covid vaccination from the Department of Health.

“We were given heads up sa national na maghatag nata ug vaccination sa atong 12-17 years old, on October 15, 2021, although wala pa ta’y guidelines on it (We were given a heads up by the national government that we can give vaccination for our 12-17 years old October 15, 2021, although we do not have guidelines on it),” Schlosser said.

Schlosser said the guideline on pre-registration for minors is not out yet. What is definite, she said, is the starting date.

“Gahulat ta sa DOH, kung ang DOH moingon nga i—preregister ang vaccinees then we will do that (We are waiting for the DOH. If it says that there is a need to pre-register, then we will do that),” Schlosser said.

She said this development is interesting since there are parents who are fully vaccinated inquiring about the vaccination rollout for children because they prefer that their children will also be vaccinated.

Schlosser said that apart from the vaccination for children and the general population, the National Covid-19 Task Force Vaccination Operations Center through its Advisory No. 89, has issued guidance on the vaccination of Public and Private School Teaching and Non-Teaching Personnel in Educational Institutions.

Through this advisory, all regional and local vaccination operation centers, implementing units and vaccination sites, and educational institutions are directed to ensure the vaccination of public and private teaching and non-teaching personnel in educational institutions to support the ongoing preparations for the eventual re-opening of limited face-to-face classes for students, especially in basic education institutions, and to ensure the continuity of students’ learning during the pandemic.

On Monday, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte already named five schools that are submitted to the Department of Education for the pilot testing of face-to-face classes.

The mayor said the city government already transmitted to the Department of Education (DepEd) the city’s preference for vaccinated teaching and non-teaching personnel to be allowed for the pilot testing in five schools be allowed. CIO
