Davao City achieving a 51.69 percent herd immunity for its first dose vaccination rollout is already a great achievement, a Davao COVID-19 Task Force official.
Davao COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser bared this during the COVID-19 Alert program of the 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) aired on Wednesday, September 8.
She said, “As of September 4, ang natagaan og first dose is 620,284. Ang sa atong second dose, which is still ongoing, 347,797. Dako-dako na sya. In fact, 51.69 achieved herd immunity sa first dose, 28.98 sa second dose (As of September 4, we have administered 620,284 first doses. The second dose, which is still ongoing, is 347,797. It’s a huge number. We have achieved a 51.69 percent herd immunity for the first dose and 28.98 percent for the second dose).”
“The fact nga nakaabot na ta sa 51 percent kana dako-dako na na sya nga achievement sa atoang LGU og vaccination cluster (The fact that we have reached 51 percent is already a great achievement for our LGU and vaccination cluster). In fact, (we’re) always commended. We are fortunate kay dili nato kaayo problema ang gusto magpa-vaccine kay daghan-daghan jud ang gusto (because we don’t have a problem with those who want to get vaccinated because there is a lot of of them),” the City Health Office (CHO) official said.
Schlosser, however, said that the new target of 15,000 daily vaccinations has not yet been realized since the city is dependent on the supply of vaccines from the Department of Health (DOH).
“Gahulat ra ta og allocation of vaccines from the national government. Karon ang niabot lang kasi for this week dili pud ingon ana ka daghan (What arrived this week is not that much) – Pfizer 13,455; Sinopharm 3,125, and AstraZeneca 600. Pero gapaabot gihapon ta. Mao lagi to ang goal sa atong good mayor, 15,000 a day nga vaccinees (But we are still waiting. That’s the goal of our good mayor, 15,000 vaccinees a day),” she added.
She also said that Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has already requested DOH 11 for a bigger vaccine allocation since the city is capable of vaccinating 15,000 individuals daily through various vaccination sites available.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod-led mobile vaccinations, according to her, also play a key role in hastening the vaccination rollout and increasing the number of A2 (seniors) and A3 (adults with comorbidities) vaccinees every day. They are the most vulnerable priority groups.
Mayor Duterte, in previous episodes of her Special Hours program over DCDR, urged Dabawenyos to get their second jabs to complete their immunity.
She also reminded them not to be choosy with the brand of vaccines. “Magremind lang ta sa tanan natong kaigsuonang Dabawenyo nga dili na mamili og brand sa bakuna (We are reminding Dabawenyos not to choose the brand of vaccine) because in this pandemic, every day counts. Wala ta kahibalo who may become severe or critical. Kita on our own dili ta mahibalo kung kanus-a na or kita ba to (We can’t be certain who will become severe or critical. On our own, we don’t know when or will it be us)”
The mayor said it is important to avail of the vaccine when there is already an opportunity to do so. CIO
