The Department of Tourism (DOT) is establishing a Covid-19 testing laboratory to augment the city’s testing capacity for air passengers.

This was announced by Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte during her interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday.

“Dunay expression of support and commitment ang DOT for a Covid-19 testing laboratory for air passengers. That will come after the City Health Office pa siguro because they will start from zero (There is an expression of support and commitment from DOT for a Covid-19 testing laboratory for air passengers. Maybe that will come after the City Health Office because they will start from zero),” Mayor Sara said.

If it will be realized, Mayor Sara said, the city will have five (5) Covid-19 testing laboratories in the future.

Currently, Davao City has two testing laboratories. These are the Southern Philippines and Medical Center (SPMC), and Davao One World – a private laboratory. Davao Doctor’s Hospital and Los Amigos Health Center are being prepared.

“We’ll check next week because Davao Doctor’s Hospital said that they’ll be up and ready by next week – first week of August,” she said.

The Los Amigos Health Center has already acquired the permit to construct while the procurement of equipment is still ongoing. Health care workers and personnel designated in the center are also done with their training.

Mayor Sara assured that DOT’s testing laboratory would come soon to help with Covid-19 testing in the city. CIO
