The Davao City Sports Development Division Office has started inspecting establishments or facilities for indoor and outdoor non-contact sports and other forms of exercise to see their compliance with the guidelines on standard health protocols for the protection of clients against the coronavirus.
The city government has set off the inspection of sports establishments such as physical fitness gyms, badminton, swimming, parks for jogging, and other facilities after these have been allowed to re-open during the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
“Among gina-check kung in place na ba ilang mga preventive measures, to make sure na dili mabutang sa peligro ang mga kliyente nila (We are checking whether their preventive measures are already in place, to make sure that their clients are safe),” said Michael Denton Aportadera, the head of the City Sports Development Division Office.
So far, the city inspected a total of 19 sports establishments as of July 9, 2020.
He added that his office has reminded establishments to follow the minimum public health standards such as the wearing of masks, the maintenance of social distancing, and the no sharing of equipment. The establishments are allowed to only fill half of the venue capacity from Monday to Saturday.
“We make sure that it’s more of a self-regulation sa ilahang establishment. Sila na mismo ang mag-check if everybody is safe ug nakasunod sa mga guidelines (We make sure there is self-regulation in their establishment. They should check that everybody is safe and following the guidelines),” he said.
Aportadera said fitness gyms must also ensure their place are well ventilated and their shared equipment cleaned after each use.
According to Section 5 No. 4 of the June 25 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines, the non-contact sports and exercises such as but not limited to walking, jogging, running, biking, golf, swimming, tennis, badminton, equestrian, range shooting, and skateboarding are allowed under the MGCQ.
Meanwhile, the city’s Skate Park at the Agdao Flyover Bridge is also back in operation from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The park limits entry of 20 persons per batch. CIO
