Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte locked down two more areas in the city to further contain the transmission of the coronavirus to adjacent villages.
On Wednesday, Mayor Sara gave the go-ahead to lock down certain areas in Barangays Leon Garcia in Agdao District and Daliao in Toril District.
Mayor Sara in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), said the city government medical teams conducted random tests in Barangay Leon Garcia to check the extent of the virus transmission in the area.
Aside from Leon Garcia, the mayor has also approved the request of Daliao Barangay Captain Rodolfo Oping Te to lock down one purok in his barangay.
Earlier, the mayor also approved the lockdown of Purok 8 in Barangay 21-C, and Purok 3,4, and 7 in Barangay 23-C to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Explaining the urgency of the lockdown in these areas, Mayor Sara said the transmission is faster because these are densely-populated areas.
“Ang kalahian man gud ani nila, mao nang kinahanglan nato sila i-lockdown is because densely populated ang area. Kibalo na ta kung densely populated ang area, paspas gyud na mukalat—mukatag ang kagaw dinha (They must undergo lockdown because those areas are densely populated. We know once an area is densely populated, the spread of the virus is fast),” she said.
She also advised Dabawenyos to stay away from the mentioned barangays – Barangay 21-C, Barangay 23-C, Barangay Leon Garcia, and Barangay Daliao and to respect the lockdown rules.
Mayor Sara, however, assured that food ration will be distributed in these areas while the residents are staying at home. CIO
