Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Tuesday told Dabawenyos to ignore people soliciting food and money as these are most likely a form of modus operandi by people taking advantage of the current situation.

The mayor has received reports about some individuals asking for money on behalf of the Davao City Police Office.

She said these unscrupulous individuals would knock on doors and ask for cash and food, telling homeowners it is intended for the police.

Mayor Sara stressed that the members of the DCPO or PNP are provided with enough food, thus, they do not need to ask for them.

“Our DCPO and PNP are provided with regular food and packed lunch nila para sa ilahang pangkonsumo (Our DCPO and PNP are provided with regular food and packed lunch for their consumption),” Mayor Sara said during an interview over the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).

She also emphasized that the extended enhanced community quarantine has limited the movement of people.

The mayor asked the public to avoid these kinds of people as they may be exposed to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“Please avoid kaning mga ing-ani na mga tao because wala ta kibalo, kung duna sila’y exposure or wala (Please avoid these kinds of people because we don’t know if they have exposure to the coronavirus or not),” she said.

She advised Dabawenyos who want to help people in need, to avoid direct physical contact or touching the things they are distributing. Dabawenyos can leave the goods while recipients can pick them up, she suggested. CIO
