Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte on Monday warned tricycle drivers to stop their operation if they continue to overcharge passengers and defy rules.

“Follow rules or you will no longer be allowed to operate,” Mayor Sara warned after receiving numerous complaints of fare overcharging from affected passengers.

“This serves as a warning sa tanang mga tricycle. Kung persistent gani ang complaint sa mga tao sa overcharging sa plete, pwede nato ipa-stop ang tricycle (This serves as a warning to all tricycle drivers. If there are still complaints from people about fare overcharging, we can stop tricycles from operating),” Mayor Sara said.

Under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) the tricycles have been allowed to ply their route because the public mass transport has been suspended since Saturday, April 4, 2020. This is to consider residents going to grocery stores and wet markets who do not own private cars.

Drivers are, however, directed to follow the guidelines in the Executive Order issued by mayor by allowing only 2 passengers (one passenger in front and 1 at the back).

If erring tricycle drivers do not heed to the guidelines, Mayor Sara said she would not hesitate to cease them from operating.

“Kung dili sila gusto mahunong na, it’s either mosunod sila sa standard nga plete o ma-zerohan sila (If they do not want to be banned from operating, it’s either they follow the standard fare or they get nothing at all,)” the mayor said.

Residents who experience overcharging from abusive tricycle drivers may report to the City Transport and Traffic Management Office at (082) 298-3602 or the following numbers: 0947 264 9337, 0930 161 7077, 0943 446 9107 and 0908 925 4422. CIO
